The Mentorship Circle is facilitated by Claire Mahon of Change Maker Coaching & Mentoring and the Global Human Rights Group

It’s a group coaching and mentoring program, for advocates, humanitarians, and global leaders (including emerging leaders), who are working in human rights, international law, aid and development. It’s specifically designed for global affairs practitioners, to provide support, mentorship, and coaching around personal and professional development.

Your facilitator and fellow participants are people who truly understand what it’s like to work in these areas.

An intimate and enriching circle of support for you and your dreams

You’ve heard it many times before: Be the change you wish to see on the world.

For many of us, the sentiment behind the meme is what got us started down the path of our careers and has dictated the direction of our lives.

But it’s easier said than done.

It’s lonely and difficult work. And most of us are filled with self-doubt, plagued by imposter complex, and fighting to be heard above the patriarchy.

Even when it’s going well, we’re often wondering if we’re doing enough, if we’re doing it right, if this is it, or if we can or should be aiming for more.

Many of our amazingly talented clients seek out coaching because they fear their career is plateauing and they’ve reached a point where they feel it’s time to be more proactive about where their life is going.

Is it time to be more proactive about your life?

In The Mentorship Cirle, we’ll explore a range of issues that affect you in your professional and personal lives, and help you to clarify, connect with, and have the courage and confidence to live your dreams.

Some of the topics we may work on together include:

  • clarifying your calling in life

  • courageous decision-making

  • navigating life and career transitions

  • developing a proactive career strategy

  • creating and maintaining healthy boundaries

  • dealing with your inner critic

  • using your inner mentor

  • balancing self-care and prioritising well-being

  • communicating in healthy ways

  • personal branding and profile building

  • conflict resolution and negotiation

  • empowering leadership

The full content of the program will be guided by you - we’ll be figuring out what you and your fellow participants need and will provide the support needed to become the best version of yourself.

The program is designed so that you are getting the support you need, without it being overwhelming as you balance this in your busy life. There will be time to integrate the insights and practices, and you don’t need to worry about falling behind and not catching up.

The focus is on providing an environment where you can do the work and experience transformation at your own pace, with guidance and accountability.

The Mentorship Circle is a confidential, non-judgmental and supportive space, where you will be met with kindness, compassion, empathy, humour, creativity, and courage.

The Mentorship Circle includes:

  • an opening and a closing workshop

  • 18 weekly group calls commencing May 2021 and ending November 2021

  • online forum for support and communicating (as often or infrequently as you wish) with fellow participants

  • 4 one-on-one individual coaching calls

Enrolments open in March 2021 for the next round, and our group calls will start in May 2021.

The calendar opens for booking your first individual coaching sessions from the start of the enrolment period. Deadline for enrolments is noon Monday 26 April.

Group calls

The group calls will be held weekly, three times per month, followed by an ‘integration week’, providing an opportunity to catch-up and integrate the learnings into your life.

We’ll hold all our group and individual calls on Zoom, an easy to use video platform service. No need to download software, you can access Zoom from your browser. You will be sent the link to the Zoom meeting with your registration package. (If the group wishes, we can discuss other alternative platforms)

Calls will be recorded and available on a secure online platform, so when* you miss some of our sessions you can easily catch-up on what was discussed - no need for FOMO! (*I say when not if, as it is inevitable for all of us from time to time).

Calls times will be determined based on the timezones of those who enroll (we’ll find a time that works best for everyone, and this may involve rotating call times bi-weekly).

The full schedule of dates for our group calls will be available before the commencement of the program.

Individual coaching

You can book your 4 individual coaching calls at any stage throughout the program. You’ll be asked to book your first session when you enrol.

It’s easy to book your sessions — just go straight to the calendar and find a time that suits you.

The calendar will appear in your local timezone, and we try to ensure appointment times are available for people in various time zones, so we can work with you no matter where you live.

If no appointments are available for times that work for you, contact us and we can see if alternative arrangements can be made.

online support forum

Throughout the 6-month program you and the other participants in the group will have access to an interactive online forum, where we can interact with each other and support each other.

This will deepen the supportive mentorship experience, as we learn from each other and share our journey.

Your Facilitator

The Mentorship Circle is facilitated by Claire Mahon. Claire is an internationally award winning human rights advocate and the founder of the Global Human Rights Group. She has worked as an advisor to world leaders including Presidents and heads of United Nations agencies, and has run a global consulting practice for over 20 years, offering advocacy, policy and legal advice to businesses, governments, civil society, and international experts.

Since 2012 she has also run a coaching practice that helps global affairs practitioners, human rights advocates, international lawyers, humanitarians, and global leaders in aid and development, to change the world.

I work with those who want to change the world, helping them to establish or deepen their careers in the international sector.

And I work with those who seek to change their worlds, to develop clarity, connection, and confidence.

One of the most important lessons I’ve ever learned is that in order to change the world we often need to change our worlds — in particular the way that we lead and manage our own lives and relationships. The work I’ve done with some of my own mentors, such as Randi Buckley (whose work on Healthy Boundaries for Kind People is life changing) and Tara Mohr (who does exceptional work on helping women learn about Playing Big) informs the work I do with clients in nurturing and developing their best selves.

The people I work with are those who unashamedly want to create a better world, for themselves and for others, a world where human rights and human dignity are respected, protected, and fulfilled.

Together, we figure out how to do this, and what information and resources are needed, whether that’s on a global scale or in their own personal lives.

You can read testimonials from previous clients here and read Claire’s full biography here.

Claire has a rare skill: she’s able to care deeply and share a lot of empathy while providing clear, insightful advice. It’s always great to talk things through with her and get her thoughts on complicated situations.
